Joshua Ravensbergen

The 6’6″ goaltender from North Vancouver was the first goaltender selected in the NHL Draft, going 30th overall by the San Jose Sharks. Joshua was a finalist for the WHL Goaltender of the Year, and had an incredible showing at the CHL USA Top Prospects Challenge earlier this season.

What’s even more incredible is the fact that Joshua went undrafted in the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft… just goes to show what dedication and hard work can earn you over years of blood, sweat and tears!

Hard Earned Respect to Joshua, the Ravensbergen Family and his Agency!

Peyton Kettles, a 6’6″ right-shot defenseman, was selected 39th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2025 NHL Draft. Known for his size, physicality, and shutdown ability, he played the 2024–25 season with the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos, tallying 14 points and 65 penalty minutes in 53 games. Internationally, he represented Canada at the 2023 World U-17 Hockey Challenge and helped win gold at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Kettles is seen as a promising long-term blue-line asset with top-four potential.

NCAA Hockey Tuition Tax Credits

Last week at Predator Ridge we heard from cross border Accountant Doug Smith, who has been helping hockey players who played NCAA in the US to save significantly on taxes due when players reenter Canada (to work or play).

If you had the opportunity to earn a Tuition Scholarship in the US and aren’t sure if you’ve taken advantage of these tax credits yet, please reach out – you could be in a position to receive a significant refund !

Former NHL defenseman Invests in Housing Affordability

A former NHL defenseman (who has chosen to remain Anonymous for the time being) is using part of his earnings to invest in affordable housing in Toronto, teaming up with a local developer to help ease the city’s rental crisis. He’s staying out of the spotlight, but his actions show how players can use their income to make a lasting difference.

This is such a powerful example of how success on the ice can open doors to build your wealth—and help others while doing it.

When will the Anonymous NHL Alumni reveal himself?!?

Noteworthy Changes to the NHL CBA (2026 – 2030)

1. Expanded Season & Rivalry Focus

Starting in 2026-27, the NHL will increase the regular season to 84 games, ensuring each team plays division rivals four times. Preseason games will be reduced, and the move aims to create a more balanced, rivalry-driven schedule.

2. Shorter Player Contracts

Contract lengths will drop to seven years for re-signings and six for free agents. This aligns with a growing trend toward shorter deals as players prioritize flexibility and financial strategy amid a rising salary cap.

3. Playoff Salary Cap & Other Changes

A new playoff salary cap will close the LTIR loophole used by past champions. Other changes include standardizing draft rights to age 22, eliminating team dress codes, and adding full-time emergency goalies.

Top Three Lessons from Mind Gym

One of the top books (a MUST READ) on mental resilience for hockey players is widely considered to be “Mind Gym: An Athlete’s Guide to Inner Excellence” by Gary Mack. It’s a classic in sports psychology and has been praised by many pro athletes for its practical, mindset-focused approach.

Here are the top three lessons from Mind Gym with concise explanations:

  • Control Your Inner Dialogue Your thoughts shape your performance. Mind Gym teaches athletes to catch negative self-talk and replace it with positive, empowering messages. This mental shift builds confidence and reduces anxiety, helping players stay focused during high-pressure moments.

  • Visualize Success – Mack emphasizes the power of mental imagery—visualizing yourself succeeding in specific situations. This practice prepares your brain for actual performance, boosting muscle memory and improving your reaction times on the ice.

  • Focus on the Process, Not the Outcome – The book encourages athletes to concentrate on daily actions and effort rather than obsessing over wins or losses. Focusing on controllable factors reduces stress and fosters consistent improvement, which is key to long-term success.
