Tyson Jugnauth

Juggy is having yet another breakout season in Portland, having tallied 45 points in 32 games so far this season. His December efforts were especially fruitful, bearing 6 apples in a single game against the Vancouver Giants (yes 6, you read that right), earning him WHL Player of the Week and moving him up the ranks for the leagues’ total point leaders (currently at #16). Not bad for a pro golfer 😏…

And the apples don’t fall far from the tree – his brother Logan committed to the PG Cougars in December, congrats to the Jugnauth family !

But wait – there’s more… hot off the press, we’ve just caught wind that Tyson has committed to Michigan State University for the 2025-2026 season, wow this kid is making moves, what an incredible organization and honor to join the Spartans.

Big Shoes to Fill Logan, Keep it up Juggy !

Connor Hvidston

Hviddy has been having a stellar season at just under a point per game, helping his new team, the Calgary Hitmen, climb into third spot in the WHL’s Eastern Division with a 7-3 record in their past 10 games. He also surpassed the 200 career game mark, which is a massive accomplishment. AND he also earned the most points during our Financial Literacy presentation in November… guy can do it all.

Good Luck on the Second Half, Leave Your Mark !

Ray Ferraro

Legendary NHL player turned broadcaster Ray Ferraro was recently voted in as part of the 2025 class to the BC Sports Hall of Fame, marking yet another incredible accomplishment for the tenacious kid from Trail, BC. We are so lucky to have Ray as part of our VPS&E network; along with his wife Cammi Granato and his sons Landon & Matt, some of the nicest & most down to earth people you’d ever meet.

The Legend of Rayzer Lives on, Congrats!

Where does Hockey fit into the new NCAA NIL regime?

“We are building the plane as we fly it. We’re almost ready to land it and we’re still building it.”

That’s how prepared Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork feels ahead of the major NCAA changes coming down the pipe. So what does this mean for hockey?

While there are still more questions than answers, this article has some interesting ideas and facts about the changes – most notably, under the Revenue-Sharing Distribution Model;

The model rewards the sports that generate the most revenue, but also aligns with the formula that attorneys in the House case are using to distribute back damages: 75-80% to football; 10-15% to men’s basketball; 5-15% to other sports.

For schools offering the maximum under the rev-share cap, the formula means that football rosters would receive $13-16 million and men’s basketball rosters $2-4 million, according to estimates.

If schools do distribute 90% of their dollars to football and men’s basketball, that leaves roughly $1-2 million for all other sports.

Company Insight – Domino’s Pizza

Back in September, Portfolio Manager purchased shares in Domino’s Pizza for the VPI Canadian Balanced Pool. Since it’s a business we all know well (some of us, too well…), we thought this would provide a good opportunity to look at why we purchased it.

Did you Know…

  • Domino’s Pizza is the largest pizza company in the world
  • Has operated for 65 years
  • Over 20,900 Locations
  • Serves over 1 Million Customers Daily

Reason for Purchase:

  • Global Market Leader: Strong brand presence and large customer base across more than 90 international markets.
  • Proven Franchise Model: Successful franchise system provides scalability and generates consistent revenue
  • Strong Digital Platform: Domino’s has invested heavily in digital ordering, delivery technology, and mobile apps, making it a leader in online food delivery.
  • Resilient Business Model: The demand for affordable, convenient food options like pizza tends to remain steady, even in economic downturns.
  • Expansion Opportunities: Domino’s has significant growth potential.

Purchased at a Great Price

We were able to purchase Domino’s at a great price because a master franchise in Australia downgraded its future store growth plans, which temporarily hurt the stock. We believe this won’t affect the company’s core business, so we seized the opportunity to invest at a discount.

But Wait – Whatever Happened to Pizza Hut?

This video offers a fascinating lens on the rise and fall of Pizza Hut – everything from economic changes to shifts in consumer preference and how Domino’s was able to take advantage of these changes. Bon Appetit!
