Matt Ferraro
As the son of hockey legend and award-winning broadcaster Ray Ferraro…Matt Ferraro has literally seen it all firsthand.
From the highs of signing bonuses to the lows of realizing those bonuses won’t pay the bills for another 50 years, Matt has acquired a deep appreciation for the real issues they don’t prepare you for as a professional athlete.
Today Matt lives an amazing life of significance helping others overcome the challenges you only recognize by spending a lifetime in hockey.
Residing in Trail, BC with his wife, two children and dog, Matt cherishes time spent in the mountains hunting, fishing and skiing. With family values at his core, Matt’s approach to his career and client relationships is grounded in prioritizing what matters most.
Kurt Jory
From saving goals to saving lives Kurt has written one of hockey’s great comeback stories. After a successful junior career playing goal for the Brandon Wheat Kings, Kurt moved on to CIS hockey as he pursued a business degree at Brock University.
On November 29, 2008 in a game against Winsdor University Kurt suffered a severed jugular vein and bled out on the ice. Thanks to extraordinary efforts by the Brock University trainer, the ER doctors on call that night and dozens of blood donors Kurt miraculously survived.
Two years later after five surgeries to repair his severed nerves and thousands of hours of painful rehab…Kurt stared down the fear of playing hockey again to backstop his Brock teammates to victory.
Shortly after graduation Kurt used his experience as motivation to help launch Hockey Gives Blood, a national program that encourages the hockey community and their families to donate blood.
Kurt Jory lives in Kelowna, BC with his partner Amanda and their four children. He is a Private Wealth Advisor and Client Relationship Manager with Value Partners Investments, and is passionate about helping professional hockey players overcome barriers to success on and off the ice.
Greg Gardner
For over 30 years, Greg’s life was all about hockey… early morning workouts, intense practices, and long weekends travelling for tournaments. At just 16, he moved away from home to live with a billet family for five years to play for the Prince George Cougars. He then played at the University of Alberta for five years with the Golden Bears, and then spent two years playing for the Colorado Eagles in the ECHL. Hockey shaped everything – his time, location, and friendships.
When his career came to an end, Greg experienced an identity crisis. He wasn’t prepared for life after hockey, he missed sitting in a dressing room with 20 of his best buddies, and having grown up in a home where money wasn’t discussed, financial planning had never been a priority. The transition was tough. Greg invested in himself by earning an MBA and then served as the Chief Operating Officer for the WHL head office. Through his education and experience he understands first-hand the importance of preparing for a life after hockey.
Now, with a family of his own, Greg sees what life has to offer after the game. His mission is clear: to ensure that when the final whistle blows, you’re ready for the next chapter.
