Clay Stevenson
Clay (or “Mud” as his teammates call him) played his first NHL game this month, competing against the likes of Sidney Crosby & the Pittsburgh Penguins in an offensive showdown against Ovi and the Caps.
Although the Pens got the win, Clay proved he belongs, looked calm, cool and collected in goal making some tremendous saves; definitely a confidence boosting performance against some of the NHL’s top forwards. Inspiring to say the least !
We’re Here For It All Mud, Congrats !

Matthew Gard
Winnipeg’s Matthew Gard was selected to represent Canada at the World U18 Championship in Texas this month. Gard, a proud member of the Red Deer Rebels is NHL draft eligible this year, and currently ranked #37 among North American skaters.
We’re excited to see the former Rink Hockey Academy (Wpg) forward compete at the highest level, and even more eager to see what the future holds for the talented Gard!
Hats Off To You Matt, Make MB Proud !

Kelowna native Seth Barton has recently signed with the high flying Malmo Redhawks in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Following an impressive season and a half with KooKoo in the Finnish Liiga, the talented smooth skating/ puck moving defenseman will be moving up leagues to the highly skilled SHL.
Seth played in the NCAA for UMass-Lowell, and was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings, spending the better part of two seasons in the AHL before deciding to play overseas in Finland.

Being Frugal is a Virtue – Being Cheap is NOT!
With so much uncertainty surrounding professional athletes’ careers, it’s no surprise that despite out-earning their peers, many pro’s become frugal with their spending. While wearing frugality can be a badge of honour, there’s a fine line between being frugal and being cheap.
Being frugal is smart because it helps you manage your finances wisely, ensuring long-term stability and security even after your athletic days are over. Frugality means making thoughtful choices about spending, investing, and saving, which can help you maintain your wealth and avoid financial pitfalls.
On the flip side, being cheap isn’t the best approach. It implies a reluctance to spend money even when it’s necessary or beneficial, which can negatively impact your quality of life and relationships. Plus, it can lead to missed opportunities for personal and professional growth. Investing in high-quality training, equipment, and support systems is crucial for your success.
So, while being frugal is a prudent way to manage your finances, being cheap can be detrimental to both your career and personal well-being. Here’s a cheat sheet to decipher between the two:

Alphabet (Google)
Taking advantage of volatility to build ownership in fantastic businesses is a proven way to enhance long-term growth, and that is exactly what we are continuing to do.
Alphabet, better known as Google, is our idea of an excellent business. Google Search is something that most people couldn’t avoid even if they wanted to. For every click that customers make, of those ten blue links that Google Search serves up, Google makes money. No other search engine is even close to Google’s market share.
Prior to the 90-day pause announcement from the Trump administration, Alphabet was trading very close to 2021 levels, despite the company having grown revenue close to 36% and earnings over 43%. This is simply an opportunity we could not afford to miss out on.
Alphabet also owns several dominant businesses, including:

How Much do Players Get Paid in the Playoffs?
Despite not receiving separate salaries for postseason play, NHL players are compensated through a playoff bonus pool agreed upon by the NHL and NHLPA. This pool, which increases every few years, is distributed based on how far teams advance in the playoffs. For instance, in 2024, the Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers, received $6,539,375, with each player earning approximately $284,000.
How does this compare to other Professional Sports leagues?
